“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you” (Zechariah 9:9a).

Our journey to the fullness of salvation is not about what we can do for God or for ourselves but about receiving what God has stored up for us.

Salvation belongs to Him; He brings us salvation, so all of our efforts need to be about positioning ourselves to receive His salvation. Our acts of consecration — worship and praise, prayers, fasting, ministry, intercession, and a holy lifestyle — cannot by themselves bring us to the fullness; all they do is position us to be able to receive the fullness from God.

It is important to be enlightened in this so that we do not place upon ourselves expectations that we cannot attain but rather turn our gaze to God and lay all our expectations on Him. He is the only One who has the capacity to fulfill the hopes that He has, by His Spirit, triggered in us.

Whatever our needs might be, let’s set our expectations on Him. Do we need strength to be consistent in our walk with Him? Let’s place our hope in Him, saying, “Lord, I’m looking to you to cause me to walk consistently with you.”

Do we desire to grow to higher heights in Him? Let’s look expectantly to Him, for out of Him will proceed the workings that will bring us to greater heights in Him.

Do we need to win battles against the oppressor? Let’s look to Him for the sound that signals an end to our struggles.

Salvation belongs to Him. As a beloved brother pointed out a while ago, He is “the End.” His arrival in any situation signals the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. He is the coming King, so let’s look expectantly for Him in every aspect of our lives — the life now and the one to come. He promises to come again, bringing full salvation to those who are eagerly waiting for and expecting Him (Hebrews 9:28).
