The Great Deliverer

There are some battles that are just too great for us to fight on our own! Many times we are unaware of the extent of darkness behind such battles; we consider them simple, natural occurrences — a sick child, a job lost mysteriously, a contract suddenly terminated, complex circumstances that frustrate and hinder whatever tasks or purposes God has called us to fulfill, and more.

The Word of God tells us that “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). This is the reality of every born-again Christian who strives to follow the Lord wholeheartedly.

But greater still is the reality that our God is a mighty deliverer. To Him, Moses prayed: “Rise up, O Lord! Let Your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate You flee before You” (Numbers 10:35).

Of Him, David testified: “I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth—Praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord” (Psalm 40:1-3).

Of Him, the modern-day song testifies: “If it had not been for the Lord on my side, where would I be …”

Indeed, if God were not on our side, we would be destroyed. But praise to the One who will not give us over to the hands of our enemies. Of Him, we also will testify, “He set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth!” Hallelujah!
