God’s peace is a gift we receive when we accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. This peace is extremely valuable. Paul described it in Philippians 4:7 as a peace that surpasses all understanding. This means that it works in a way that cannot be figured out by the human mind.
One of the amazing things about God’s peace is that it has the power to keep the believer completely calm in the midst of turbulent life circumstances.
Before He left this world, our Lord Jesus warned that every believer will intermittently face difficult circumstances. But He said we should be confident in the face of these hardships because He has gained and imparted to us peace that overcomes trouble (John 16:33). It is a kind of peace that keeps us composed in the face of challenges; it prevents us from becoming overwhelmed.
When troublesome circumstances arise, people naturally become anxious and worried. But God has made it possible for His children to deal with problems in a completely different way. He tells us in Philippians 4:6-7 that when faced with problems, regardless of how big or small, we should not fret or worry. Rather, we should pray and commit our situations to Him. He promises that His peace will thereafter guard our hearts and minds and give us a confident assurance that our problems will be solved.
God’s peace makes it possible not to be agitated while waiting for our problems to be solved, even when the symptoms of those problems are still evident in our lives.
